The Paint on a Widebody Jet Adds Up to 1,000 Pounds of Weight
Painting a commercial widebody airliner requires between 250 and 400 liters of primer, polyurethane color, and clearcoat, adding between 600 and 1,000 lbs (270 to 450 kg) of dry weight to the airframe. That extra mass increases lifetime fuel consumption by hundreds of thousands of dollars, which is why airlines carefully optimize livery schemes.
